Bernard M. Berman, the firm’s founder and senior partner, graduated from Columbia Law School in 1965 with an L.L.B. degree and later a Juris Doctor Degree. He was subsequently selected for the distinction of a clerkship with the Hon. Joseph Sloane, President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas 7 Philadelphia where he served for one year. Persuaded by a fraternity brother to come to Media, PA and interview at his firm, Mr. Berman successfully nailed the job and has maintained his principal office in Media ever since. As a young lawyer, Mr. Berman served successive judicial clerkships with Hon. Edward Lippincott and Hon. Paul Sand, and as trial attorney for the Delaware County Public Defender.

Mr. Berman has set himself to a very high standard and is held in high regard both by his peers and his clients in the practice of Family Law: Custody/Visitation, Divorce/Property Distribution, Father’s Rights, Grandparent’s Rights, Paternity, Pre-Nuptial and Post-Nuptial Agreements, Protection From Abuse, Relocation, Support and Alimony.

He is a stalwart advocate for his clients and has successfully represented them in a wide variety of Civil and Criminal cases, Social Security Disability claims, Real Estate Transactions, Personal Injury claims and Business Contracts.

Raised in Drexel Hill, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, Mr. Berman graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1958 and was Valedictorian of his class. At Upper Darby, he was sports editor of the school newspaper, the Acorn, actor in class plays, on the wrestling and tennis teams and voted “wittiest” by his classmates.

Mr. Berman attended Swarthmore College and graduated in 1962. While at Swarthmore, he was sports editor of the weekly newspaper The Phoenix, the 126 lb. varsity wrestler for three years, a member of Phi Sigma Kappa National Fraternity, president of the Inter Fraternity Council, chairman of the Men’s Judiciary Committee and actor in the Little Theatre Club.

Then on to Columbia Law School where he served as Chair of the Judicial Council and graduated in 1965.

In 1964 he married his wife, Mona, his high school sweetheart; they have 3 beautiful children and four beautiful granddaughters.

While a resident of Wallingford, PA, Mr. Berman served his community through his participation on the Parks Commission of Nether Providence, the Board of Directors of Congregation Ohev Shalom, president of The Simon Wolf Lodge and The Southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware B’nai B’rith Council, The Lions Club and the Jaycees.

As an attorney, he served on the Fee Dispute Resolution Committee of the Delaware County Bar Association and the Special Committee to Revise Rules of Civil Procedure.

Mr. Berman continues to be a presence at the national level for his college fraternity, Phi Sigma Kappa, now headquartered in Indianapolis. He has been representing the national fraternity, with some 80 chapters throughout the United States, as its General Counsel since 1968. He is a member of the Court of Honor and past Grand President of the national Grand Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa. He chairs its Risk Management and Insurance Committee and is a founding incorporator and original member of the Board of Directors of Phi Sigma Kappa Properties, Inc.

He serves his vacation community on Long Beach Island, New Jersey as a Trustee and former Officer of the Loveladies Harbor Organization where he was charged with rewriting the Rules and Regulations concerning construction of boat docks and lifts to prevent hazards to navigation. He is a member of the Board of Trustees and currently serves as Past President of the Long Beach Island Foundation of Arts and Sciences (LBIF).

Special interests are: traveling, sailing, playing tennis, reading, gardening, singing and fine wine. He has appeared, often in starring roles, in productions for The Rose Valley Chorus and Ohev Shalom Players.
