Pet Custody Law

When couples split up or divorce, who gets the family pet often becomes a matter of dispute. Typically our dogs and cats become family, so protecting and having access to them becomes an important issue. Pennsylvania law, however, views pets as property. Pets cannot be the subject of a legal pet custody arrangement, but they can be included in a property settlement agreement.

At Berman & Associates, we can draft a pre-nuptial, post-nuptial or property settlement agreement that will spell out precisely who will receive primary custody of the family pet if you and your partner are no longer together. If you wish to discuss this further call our office at 610-565-9696 or contact us online. We offer legal representation within Philadelphia County, Delaware County, Montgomery County and Chester County.
