When couples split up or divorce, who gets the family pet often becomes a matter of dispute. Typically our dogs and cats become family, so protecting and having access to them becomes an important issue. Pennsylvania law, however, views pets as property. Pets cannot be the subject of a legal pet custody arrangement, but they can be included in a property settlement agreement.
